Join Dr. Rebecca Rebbe, a child welfare researcher and Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina School of Social Work, present research regarding child welfare cases regarding domestic violence, drug use, and neglect - a training specifically created for the King County CASA program. Many CASAs will remember Rebecca when she worked in King County for the Department prior to pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Washington. During her 6 years at the Department, she worked as a CPS investigator at the King East and King West offices, a CFWS worker at King East, and ended her tenure at the Department as an Adoptions supervisor. While she lives in North Carolina, she remains an avid Seattle Reign, Seattle Sounders, and Seattle Storm fan as her heart continues to be in the Northwest.

At UNC, Rebecca both teaches MSW courses and conducts research which examines the measurement of and community responses to child maltreatment. Rebecca specializes in using population-based linked administrative datasets and data science techniques to better understand child maltreatment. She is the principal investigator of the NICHD-funded research project, “The impact of COVID-19 on child maltreatment-related medical encounters and system responses using linked administrative data.” Rebecca is currently funded by a K01 award from the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control to study the relationship between social safety net accessibility and violence against children, which includes training in causal inference methods (K01-CE003548-01).
Her work has been published in academic journals, such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Pediatrics, and Child Maltreatment. Her degrees include: Ph.D., University of Washington, MSW, Boston College, EdM, Harvard University BA, University of Portland.
